Five things with Joel Farnan of Zeally Bay Sourdough

1 - Whats your favourite holiday destination. ?  Japan or California overseas, Sydney if staying domestic.

2- When you do the cooking at home - whats your go to dish ?  I love making a superbly fragrant David Thompson Thai Yellow Curry from scratch with fresh turmeric, lemongrass and galangal.

3- Any travel tips you’d like to share ?   I always try to find a ‘local scene’ – tourist attractions are the least satisfying aspects of travel I think. I always try to find a version of Fitzroy or Surry Hills when I travel and hang like the locals do.

4 - favourite app on your phone and why ?

Favourite – Enlight – The ‘swiss-army knife’ of photography edit tools

Most Used – Instagram

Couldn’t Live without – Apple Music

Least favourite - Facebook

5- Where are you sending people ?

One of the most underrated things about Torquay would have to be the Surfcoast Walk which follows the coast from Point Impossible to Anglesea and beyond. The views are breathtaking and the ever-changing vegetation is beautiful and very specific to this area. Fact – hundreds of volunteers and environmentalists have nurtured the coastline over many years to restore previous years of destruction and neglect.

Any thing you'd like to add ?

At Zeally Bay Sourdough we are concerned to feed ourselves and our children the most pure, uncontaminated foods possible.  We follow this aim by sourcing natural foods that are Certified Organically Grown, and which we believe to have superior nutritional value and flavour.  For us the best bread is always traditional, long-ferment, hearth-baked genuine sourdough made by hand from fully traceable, Certified Organic and Biodynamic ingredients and our carefully nurtured family leaven created in the early ‘80’s.  Organic Certification is the ultimate food provenance.  Independently audited strict standards ensure that soils, waterways and animals are kept as nature always intended with farmers safely producing food of wonderful integrity and robust flavour.
