5 Things with Engineered to Slide's Nigel Petrie

1. whats your favourite holiday destination?

Well I am a road trip type of guy, my fondest memory would be driving west through middle America on our honeymoon in our 1965 Econoline, those sunsets seemed to last forever.

2. when your cooking at home - whats your go to dish?

My wife is an amazing cook but thursday night is always on me. I will grab a couple of Porterhouse steaks from Siketas butchers on the way home from work, halve some cherry tomato's out of the garden, give them a drizzle of good olive oil, salt and pepper to bake in the oven. I will lay some fries on a baking tray and put them in the oven as well. With the steaks at room temperature I will fire up the bbq, add some salt and pepper, a good drizzle of olive oil on the hot plate and then cook those steaks to perfection. When it all comes together I crumble some Dodoni fetta on top of the tomato's, cut some parsley out of the garden and then serve with an ice cold can of Mt Duneed Pale Ale.

3. any travel tips you’d like to share?

I had a burning desire to ride a vintage Harley Davidson in America, last year I made it happen, I built 1/2 the bike here in Australia, flew over to San Francisco and finished the bike in 2 days and headed off on a solo journey that would span a little more than a month. I had a backpack, a 1955 Harley Davidson and a long road ahead into the unknown. I had reservations about doing it on my own, riding through San Francisco with no front brake, no suspension, a foot clutch and a jockey shifter, it was a baptism of fire and had me questioning my decisions. But as the houses thinned and the Sierra Nevada mountain range appeared infront of me I was in heaven. It's an extremely empowering thing travelling alone, I learnt a lot about myself, met some amazing people and just loved the whole experience.

4. favourite app on your phone. /  most shit app on your phone?

My favorite app is Afterlight, I love photography and the challenge to take a better picture, when I build something I really like to make the most of it by capturing it in the best way possible. Ill capture an image on my camera, connect it to my Mac, Airdrop it to my phone and use Afterlight to tweak the exposure and contrast.

The worst app? Id say Craigslist, its like a black hole for me, looking at cars and motorcycles for sale in America, I have never bought anything but love to dream.

5. Where are you sending people ?

Living in the outer suburbs of Geelong I love that the eastern end of the Great Ocean Road is just a few minutes away. I love the winding roads built on the extremities of land overlooking the Indian Ocean, cruising through laid-back little towns like Anglesea and Lorne. As you approach the township of Apollo Bay the sea spray is swapped for the warmer rainforests of the Great Otway National Park and their in lies my favorite place of them all, the giant  Californian Redwood forest. It's easy to forget about the simple things in life, with winding roads, fresh air and amazing views this day-trip is set to recharge even the weariest traveler.
